Gorham is an American sterling silverware manufacturer based in the United States. It was started in 1831 by Jabez Gorham, who made coin silver spoons as replacements for pewter spoons. In 1848 he sold the company to his son John Gorham, who took the family business from a little workshop, to one of the largest silverware manufactures in the world.
Over the years the Gorham Silverware Co. has been purchased by several corporations, including Textron, and Brown-Forman (maker of Jack Daniels). Production of Gorham silverware is still done the old-fashioned way, by highly skilled silversmiths, and overseen by the most well known artisans in the business. The patterns are licensed by Lifetime brands, and manufactured by Lenox Brands.
With over 21 styles to choose from there is something for everyone. Its most popular piece is the Chantilly. The Chantilly is arguably the most popular sterling silver piece of all time, named after the palace of Chantilly, near Paris. Every piece is highly prized among those who have the good fortune of purchasing a Gorham collection.
